From spring-fed quarry lakes in the East Texas Piney Woods to the wreck-scattered depths of Iron Bottom Sound, Oceanic Ventures has been opening underwater doors for Houston-area divers since 1990.
Oceanic Ventures has operated out of Houston since 1990, running dive outings, escorted travel, training, and a full retail shop from its location at 5808 Newcastle Drive. The team organizes monthly open-water weekends at Blue Lagoon — a spring-fed former limestone quarry near Huntsville, roughly 90 minutes northeast of the shop — where certified divers explore submerged platforms, sunken boats, a Conestoga wagon, and limestone formations to a maximum depth of 30 feet. Staff attend with first-aid and oxygen equipment, and the second weekend of each month is the regular certified-diver gathering. Beyond the local quarry, the shop organizes escorted dive travel worldwide. Upcoming group trips include a summer retreat to Little Cayman Beach Resort (July–August 2026), a Cozumel vacation in December 2026, and an expedition to Iron Bottom Sound in the Solomon Islands (September 2026) to dive the World War II wrecks that litter the seafloor. Staff handle the logistics so guests focus on diving. Training covers the full spectrum from youth and first-time adult programs through Enriched Air Nitrox, Cavern Diving, and a complete technical curriculum that includes rebreather certification and IANTD limited and advanced wreck penetration courses. The retail floor carries equipment from Zeagle, Atomic, Shearwater Research, Dive Rite, Cressi, and many other brands, and the shop also stocks photography and video housing systems for divers who want to bring images home from their adventures.
