Key Largo Dive Center
Dropping below the surface in Key Largo, the visibility stretches out and the reef color holds in a way that stays with divers long after they return to the boat. The Key Largo Diver II keeps groups small and the experience premium, with never more than 20 divers on a boat built specifically for the reef.
Key Largo Dive Center runs daily diving and snorkeling trips aboard the Key Largo Diver II — a 2021 Newton Dive Special custom-modified for diver utility and comfort — departing to two-location experiences within John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Trips run as either a morning or afternoon session and can be configured as double shallow reef dives, a deep-plus-shallow combination, or double-deep dives (which require Nitrox certification). The boat is capped at 20 divers maximum to reduce reef impact and avoid overcrowding. The Key Largo Diver II is run on a "Green Diver" philosophy: a single high-efficiency diesel engine, bio-diesel fuel when available, and reduced operating speed to protect sea turtles and other marine life. Two Divemasters are aboard every trip — one dedicated to divers and one to snorkelers — available to guide guests around reefs and wrecks, though independent buddy diving is also welcome. The deck features a custom camera table for photographers, extra-large camera rinse buckets, ample shade, and two hot water showers on the back. Beyond day charters, the center offers the full range of PADI certifications from Open Water through Divemaster, specialty courses including the Wreck Diver course (conducted on wrecks at approximately 100 feet), and a Dive Travel Club that organizes destination adventures to locations including Bonaire, Cozumel, and Borneo. Gear rental, underwater camera rentals, tank fills, and regulator service and repair round out the on-site services.
