Dive the North Atlantic off the coast of North Carolina with a crew that blends military camaraderie with a mission-driven love for the sea — hunting millions-of-years-old megalodon teeth, spearing the depths, and exploring world-class wrecks.

WETSU Scuba Foundation operates out of Carolina Beach, North Carolina, running offshore dive trips up to 25–30 miles into the North Atlantic. Founded by retired U.S. Army Colonel and USCG-licensed Master Captain Steve Oatman, the organization specializes in megalodon tooth hunting on the famous Meg ledges, long-range spearfishing, lionfish hunting, wreck diving, and expeditions to Frying Pan Tower. The operation runs on a custom 30-foot World Cat power catamaran named "Hydro Therapy," equipped with gunnel-mounted tank racks, custom speargun racks for up to 10 full-size spearguns, a custom descent and ascent line system, and twin 300 HP outboards capable of 38 knots. As a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, WETSU Scuba Foundation's mission extends well beyond commercial diving. The organization actively supports veterans outreach — providing therapeutic diving experiences to America's veterans and their families — as well as marine conservation and scientific research, including partnership with the Veterans Memorial Reef project off Wrightsville Beach. Captain Oatman holds both PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) and SDI Instructor credentials, enabling the foundation to also offer scuba training and certifications. Trips are run for a maximum of 6 divers per outing, with full-boat minimums required for confirmation. The boat is outfitted with Starlink, an ACR EPIRB, a Garmin InReach, three VHF radios, two 90-minute emergency O2 kits, a USCG-approved trauma first aid kit, an AED, a guest cooler, freshwater rinse, and an enclosed head — prioritizing safety for open-ocean diving in demanding North Atlantic conditions. Weights are included with all trips; divers must provide their own gear and carry personal dive accident insurance (DAN or equivalent).
