Taz's Excursions
Set sail on the Chester to explore deep wrecks and federal waters off the Emerald Coast.
Taz's Excursions operates out of Fort Walton Beach on Florida's Emerald Coast, running guided scuba diving and spearfishing trips from the Chester, a 29-foot Pro Kat dive boat. The charter covers destinations ranging from near-shore reefs to sites more than 25 miles offshore in federal waters, including deep wreck dives at the USS Oriskany and upcoming excursions to the SS United States artificial reef. The business is owned by Johnny Mulford, a retired US Army Sergeant who brings military discipline to every dive. The Chester holds six passengers and features custom bench seating for tanks, a private latrine, and an inside cabin. As one of the few local operators with a federal fishing license, Taz's Excursions allows guests to spearfish in offshore waters without needing individual permits. In addition to standard boat dives, the operator offers specialized experiences such as lion fishing, night dives, and multi-wreck special trips that require Advanced Open Water certification. The shop also provides equipment rentals and PADI training courses for those looking to get certified or improve their skills.
