Ideal Scuba Academy
Ride the Gulf Stream's warm currents past Goliath grouper, turtles, and coral-draped wrecks off Palm Beach — one of Florida's most dramatic drift-diving coastlines.
Ideal Scuba Academy operates along South East Florida's Atlantic coast, running boat-based dive trips on the reefs and wrecks of Palm Beach County. Drift diving is the signature style — the Gulf Stream's influence means divers let the current carry them along ledges and reef lines at sites between 50 and 90 feet. Standard drifts run south of the Palm Beach Inlet at Breakers Reef, Flower Garden, the Trench, and the Danny, while advanced sites like Juno Ledge, Shark Canyon, and the Wreck Trek lie north of the inlet at 70–90 feet, with some spots such as The Chimney and The Playground pushing to 110–130 feet. The area's artificial reef program has seeded an extraordinary concentration of wrecks: sunken freighters like the Gilbert Sea, Zion Train, Captain Tony, Princess Anne, and MV Castro have become thriving habitats alongside natural ledges such as Awesome Alley, Jolly Jack's Reef, and Paul's Reef. Divers regularly encounter Goliath grouper, nurse sharks, Caribbean reef sharks, loggerhead, hawksbill, and green turtles, moray eels, southern stingrays, and spotted eagle rays. Visibility typically exceeds 40 feet and water temperatures hold between 72 and 85 °F year-round. Beyond dive trips, Ideal Scuba Academy offers a comprehensive training programme running from entry-level through professional credentials. Courses span Open Water Diver (from $535 per person), Advanced Open Water, Emergency First Response, Rescue Diver ($950), Divemaster, Wreck Diver ($350), and Enriched Air Nitrox. Classes are kept small through private and semi-private formats, and the Open Water course includes equipment rental plus four open water training dives.
