Anchored on Old Highway in Tavernier, Captain Slate's Scuba Adventures has run daily dive trips in the Upper Florida Keys since 1978, giving guests convenient access to the pristine coral reefs and historic wrecks of the region. Every trip is staffed by a crew of captains, instructors, and divemasters who emphasize small-group safety and bring decades of site-specific knowledge to each departure. The shop is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with full rental gear — wetsuits, BCDs, regulators, masks, and fins — available on-site and free parking nearby. The headline experience is the Creature Feature, a controlled marine-life encounter that has become a Florida Keys diving institution: divers descend alongside sharks, moray eels, and giant groupers in a managed setting refined over more than four decades. Beyond this signature dive, daily offerings span 2-tank reef and wreck charters, guided night dives, snorkel trips and glass-bottom boat excursions for families and non-certified guests, and fully customizable private charters that extend to underwater weddings and group events. Training runs the full PADI ladder, from first-time Discover Scuba introductions and Open Water certification through Advanced Open Water, Nitrox/Enriched Air, and specialty courses in wreck diving, deep diving, and underwater photography.
