Texas Scuba Adventures Galveston
Seventy miles offshore, where oil rigs transform into living reefs and the northernmost coral sanctuary in the Gulf of Mexico rewards the early riser — that's where Texas Scuba Adventures takes you. From retail and training to far-flung international trips, this Galveston dive shop covers every angle of the diving life.
Texas Scuba Adventures Galveston operates out of its retail shop at 2309 Mechanic Street and runs its boat charters from the port of Freeport, roughly 70 miles from some of the most compelling dive sites in the Gulf of Mexico. Day trips aboard a 36-foot center console cover a full 12-hour day (7 am – 7 pm), reaching Stetson Bank — part of the Flower Gardens National Marine Sanctuary — and the 371-foot wreck of the Kraken, or offshore oil rig platforms collectively known as "the Kraken" dive site. Maximum depths reach around 100 feet at Stetson Bank and the Kraken wreck, with rig platform dives typically shallower on the second tank. Groups are kept intimate at 4–6 guests, with a divemaster, tanks, weights, water, and light snacks included in the $460-per-person price. Beyond local Gulf charters, the shop organizes an extensive calendar of international group dive travel, with destinations ranging from Playa del Carmen reef and cenote diving to Fiji, Australia, South Africa, Palau, and beyond. Training runs the full spectrum from Open Water through instructor-level certifications, plus specialty programs including spearfishing and an unusual American Sign Language for Divers course. A Dive Social Club adds a community dimension with shore dives, night dives, and social events throughout the year. The retail floor stocks a broad selection of BCDs, regulators, dive computers, wetsuits, masks, fins, spearfishing equipment, and rental gear — rounding out a genuinely full-service dive operation. Junior divers are welcome on charters with advance consultation, and lionfish spearfishing is permitted on rig dives.
