Stalk elusive flounder under the glow of underwater lights on a quiet night drift through shallow Texas bays.
Surrender at Sunrise is a flounder gigging operation run by Capt. David Dupnik out of the Aransas Pass and Rockport area on the Texas coast. The trips are conducted year-round (except for a six-week closure) from a custom 22-foot aluminum boat that quietly drifts into shallow sandy areas or alongside oyster reefs at night, using special underwater lights to locate flounder camouflaged under sand before guests strike with a five-prong gig pole. The operation is family-friendly and caters to all ages. Trips typically last four to six hours starting at dusk, and the group size is limited to a maximum of four people per charter. Rates are structured by party size rather than per person: $700 for two people on regular nights rising to $1500 for four people on Saturdays and holidays. The price includes fish cleaning. In addition to flounder gigging, Capt. Dupnik offers guided duck hunts in the Rockport area using an airboat transport setup where clients bring their own shotguns.
