Swift currents, dense marine life, and historically rich wrecks await offshore Jacksonville — where even veteran divers say they've never experienced such a thrilling dive.
Nautical Divers operates offshore dive charters out of Palm Cove Marina (Dock D, Slip 35) at 14603 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. Trips depart at 7:00am after a 6:15am check-in, visiting a rotating selection of wrecks and reef sites spread across roughly 1,200 square miles off the Florida First Coast. Signature destinations include Casablanca, Bob Engle, Anna, Huggins, BR Ferry, 9-mile Reef, Gulf of America, Blackmar's Reef, Banana Pogey, Barge Reef, and Spike Wreck & Reef — a lineup that gives repeat divers plenty of variety. Each 10-hour, 3-tank charter departs on the R/V Explorer, which features a diver lift rated at 750 lbs (no ladder climbing), onboard bunks, a cabin library, an onboard pizza oven for a fresh-baked pizza lunch after the second dive, and a TV for sharing underwater footage during surface intervals. A divemaster dives the site first to secure the safety line and brief the group on features, currents, and conditions. Every diver is issued a Marine Rescue GPS unit for added safety offshore. Because of challenging offshore conditions — swift currents and reduced visibility — all divers must hold Advanced Open Water and Nitrox certifications and must bring their own gear and tanks. Prices are $225 per diver and include access to the full vessel, snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, and a pizza lunch. Nautical Divers also offers Platinum Charter Passes covering six 3-tank dives for the price of five, valid for 24 months.
