Captain Brian Hanchey takes small groups out on Calcasieu Lake and the surrounding estuaries to chase speckled trout, redfish, and flounder in a full-service charter that can even include lodging at Backwater Lodge.
Louisiana Backwater Charters is a full-range fishing charter and guide service run by Captain Brian Hanchey out of the Lake Charles, Louisiana area. The trips focus on Calcasieu Lake (a.k.a. Big Lake) and its surrounding estuaries, Sabine Lake, and the Gulf of Mexico, with an emphasis on speckled trout, redfish, and flounder across bayous, rivers, flats, and marshy backwaters. The operation can accommodate large groups using multiple boats and offers a range of packages from half-day morning or afternoon trips to full-day charters. In addition to the fishing itself, the service provides first-class lodging on Calcasieu Lake at Backwater Lodge along with meals for clients who book the all-inclusive package. Captain Hanchey has been fishing Calcasieu Lake since he was 10 years old and holds a USCG charter boat license. The business is positioned as one of the highest-rated guides in Southwest Louisiana, catering to both families looking for a day out on the water and seasoned fishermen chasing fast limits.
