Joe's Scuba
Passionate instructors, maximum four students per class, and a stable offshore catamaran — Joe's Scuba keeps diving personal and skills sharp in the waters off Charleston, South Carolina.
Joe's Scuba operates out of the Charleston, South Carolina area with a clear focus on quality instruction over retail volume. Classes are intentionally small — no more than 4 students per instructor — with private class options available for individuals and families. All courses include eLearning where available, allowing students to work through the knowledge portions at their own pace. The operation explicitly prioritizes a great dive experience over building a large retail shop. For dive charters, Joe's Scuba partners with Whole Other World Scuba, teaming up with Captain Greg to run trips aboard a 26-foot Glacier Bay Island Runner catamaran that accommodates up to 6 divers plus crew. The stable catamaran design makes for quick, comfortable passages to offshore sites in the Charleston area. The boat is equipped with coolers for drinks and fish, dry storage, and a marine head onboard. Joe's Scuba also offers PFI freediving instruction through the PFI Freediver program, teaching fundamental breath-hold techniques and Static Apnea down to a maximum depth of 20 meters (66 feet). Pool sessions are held at local Charleston-area aquatic centers, and open water sessions take place at the Ravenel quarry. Veterans may be eligible for VA reimbursement for SDI courses offered by the operation.
