Operating from downtown Swansboro on North Carolina's Crystal Coast, Instigator runs private charters aboard three vessels for up to six guests, covering inshore sites within 15 miles of the inlet and offshore sites more than 15 miles out. Inshore trips range from 45–70 feet and welcome open-water certified divers, while offshore and wreck charters push to 85–130 feet and are tailored for advanced divers. Signature experiences include shark dives, three-tank wreck explorations of the "Graveyard of the Atlantic," and the specialty Megalodon Scuba Dive Charter targeting fossil-rich ledges laden with prehistoric shark teeth. Beyond scuba diving, the crew offers spearfishing charters ranging from inshore freedive sessions to offshore Gulf Stream expeditions targeting lionfish and pelagic species, as well as dedicated fishing charters for Mahi-Mahi, Tuna, Marlin, and Bluefin Tuna. An overnight five-tank Nitrox charter allows guests to cover multiple remote dive sites over a single extended trip. All dives are drift dives on offshore charters, and the crew provides comprehensive site briefings and safety guidance before each descent. A full-service retail dive shop operates by appointment from Hubert, NC, stocking leading gear brands, rental equipment, and offering SCUBA cylinder inspections and fills. Dive and spearfishing courses are available through SDI, PADI, and DAN, led by lead instructor Cindy Garb. The operation runs year-round and specializes in customizing multi-day adventure itineraries for solo travelers, couples, and groups.
