Down Under Dive Shop operates out of Gulf Shores, Alabama, offering scuba diving charters, guided beach dives, snorkel tours, and certification courses along the Gulf Coast. The shop's signature charter vessel is the "Down Under," a 46-foot Newton Dive Special powered by twin 375 hp turbo diesel engines, equipped with two large dive ladders, 72 tank racks, freshwater showers, camera tables, and ample deck space for divers to gear up. Near-shore and offshore trips reach depths of 60 to 100 feet, targeting manmade reefs, wrecks, and Alabama's expanding artificial reef program. Beach diving is a standout offering here, with popular sites including the Whiskey Wreck — a 200-foot rum runner that burned and sank in 1906 and now rests in 15 to 25 feet of water just 150 yards from shore — and the Perdido Pass Jetties at Alabama Point. Guided beach dives include tanks and weights, and night diving on the Whiskey Wreck is also available. The shop also runs 1.5-hour guided snorkel tours to the Rock Jetties of Perdido Pass and the Turtle Grass Beds behind Robinson Island, where local waters host more than 200 species of tropical and game fish. Beyond diving, the shop is a Scubapro Platinum Dealer stocking top dive brands, offering gear rentals, tech repair, and RangerRoad equipment. E-bike, paddleboard, and kayak rentals round out the surface activities. The team includes PADI Divemasters and Instructors available for guided snorkeling, beach diving, and beginner through specialty certification courses.
