DiveHatteras
Experience the thrill of open-ocean wreck diving on the Diamond Shoals aboard a spacious and seaworthy Duffy boat.
DiveHatteras operates out of Hatteras Village on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, specializing in open-ocean shipwreck diving off Cape Hatteras and the Diamond Shoals. The charter runs from a private slip behind the Burris Red&White store on Saxon Cut Drive aboard the Lion's Paw, a 42-foot Duffy boat built for offshore work that cruises at 18 knots to reach dive sites approximately 90 minutes away. The operator focuses exclusively on wreck diving in warm Gulf Stream waters, taking small groups of up to six divers out to historic shipwrecks like the British Splendour, Dixie Arrow, and U-701. Trips typically involve two dives per day with a minimum requirement of four divers for walk-on bookings. The boat is equipped with modern navigation systems, safety gear including an AED and emergency oxygen, and amenities such as a large salon, shower, and V-berth to keep divers comfortable during the long offshore transit. Divers must be certified and are expected to have experience beyond checkout dives due to the challenging open-ocean conditions. The operator also offers blue water spearfishing charters for both scuba and freediving participants.
