Deep Ocean Explore Store
Explore Monterey's kelp-draped reefs, drift through ancient Yucatán cenotes, or help scrub the ocean floor on a Dives Against Debris excursion—all organised from DOER's Alameda home base on the Bay.
Tucked into Alameda's waterfront at 650 W Tower Ave, Deep Ocean Explore Store (DOER) serves as the Bay Area's launchpad for both local California diving and far-flung travel. The shop runs small-group guided dives in Monterey Bay—visiting sites from tide-swept Point Lobos to the popular kelp-garden entry at San Carlos Beach—and organises group travel to Catalina Island, Curaçao, and Mexico's cenote systems. Conservation sits at the heart of the operation: DOER's Dives Against Debris excursions put certified divers to work protecting the reefs they explore, and the shop carries a curated selection of ocean field guides and conservation literature alongside its gear. In-house training stretches from Open Water certification (capped at five students per instructor for quality and safety) through a full specialty ladder—Nitrox, Deep, Navigation, Night, Dry Suit, and Peak Performance Buoyancy—up to Rescue Diver and leadership-level credentials, offered under both PADI and SDI curricula. Ocean training dives take place in Monterey over the course of a weekend, and referral options are available for students who prefer to complete their open-water dives closer to home or at another location. The retail floor carries major brands including Scubapro, DUI, Shearwater (featuring the Tern and Perdix 2 dive computers), Garmin, Henderson, and Fourth Element, alongside a book section curated around ocean health and marine biology. The shop also connects divers with dive-safety resources including DAN and DiveAssure insurance programs, making DOER a well-rounded resource for Bay Area divers at every level of experience.
