Caloosa Dive Club
Fifty-plus years of exploring Southwest Florida's waters and the wider Caribbean — the Caloosa Dive Club connects divers with the Vandenberg Wreck, Florida Keys reef systems, goliath grouper encounters, and liveaboard adventures in the Bahamas.
The Caloosa Dive Club has been uniting Southwest Florida divers since 1970, when a small circle of local friends who loved diving and spearfishing formalized their weekends on the water into an organized club. Today, with more than 100 members ranging in age from 8 to 80, the Cape Coral-based club maintains one of the most active dive calendars in the region — sending members to the USNS Vandenberg wreck off Key West, lobster dives at Lauderdale by the Sea, goliath grouper encounters off Riviera Beach, drift dives out of Fort Lauderdale, and recurring shark-tooth dives at Venice Beach through local charter partners including Aristakat Charters, American Dream Dive Charters, and Conch Republic Divers in Tavernier. Each trip is coordinated by a club member with a published sign-up date; when space allows, non-members are welcome to join. Beyond Florida waters, the club organizes group travel to celebrated dive destinations including Cozumel (at the Iberostar Resort), Bonaire, the Cayman Islands, and the Bahamas — periodically including multi-day liveaboard expeditions. The annual underwater photography contest, judged each September at Judgement Night, keeps members sharp behind the lens, and an Awards Banquet every October celebrates excellence in photography, spearfishing, and club community. Meetings are held on the first and second Tuesdays of each month at the Cape Coral Elks Lodge (850 Lafayette Street), opening with a 6:30 pm social hour before the 7:00 pm meeting. With members who range from brand-new divers just earning their first certification to veterans with thousands of logged dives, the Caloosa Dive Club is one of the most inclusive dive communities in Southwest Florida, welcoming both active divers and non-divers alike.
